Exporting Services to Ireland From India: EDF, Invoicing and Payment Guide

To export services to Ireland from India, invoice your Irish client (usually in euro), receive the payment into your Indian bank, and declare each invoice on your monthly EDF with "Ireland" in the Part 2B country column. The EDF goes to your AD bank within 30 days of the month end, and the money must arrive within 9 months of the invoice date. Irish clients — often tech, pharma and fund-services companies — tend to be process-driven, so expect supplier onboarding forms before your first payment.

Key takeaways

  • Most Irish clients pay in euro; invoicing in EUR avoids conversion arguments on their side.
  • Euro payments to India arrive by international wire or through payment providers — check fees and documents before choosing.
  • Irish clients may ask for your tax details, a tax residency certificate or VAT information; ask exactly what they need.
  • India and Ireland have a tax treaty; your CA can tell you whether and how it applies to your income.
  • Declare every Irish invoice on the EDF for its month, with Ireland as the country.

Before the first invoice: supplier onboarding

Larger Irish companies — and the Irish subsidiaries of global groups — usually onboard suppliers formally. Expect a supplier form asking for your legal name, address, bank details, and tax information. Common requests include:

What the client may ask for What it is Who helps
Company registration details Your CIN/LLPIN or business registration Your company secretary or CA
Tax identification Usually your PAN; sometimes GSTIN You
Tax residency certificate (TRC) Proof you're tax-resident in India Apply via Form 10FA; see our TRC guide
VAT status Whether you're registered for VAT in Ireland (usually not) Ask the client how they'll account for VAT
Bank letter Confirms your account details Your bank

Whether an Irish client withholds any tax from your fees, and whether the treaty affects that, depends on the type of service and Irish rules. Don't assume either way — ask the client's accounts team what they will do and get your CA to review. This is general information, not legal or tax advice.

Invoicing an Irish client

A clean export invoice to Ireland includes:

  • Your legal name, address, GSTIN (if registered) and PAN.
  • The client's full legal name and Irish address — exactly as on their supplier form.
  • Invoice number and date, purchase order number if they issued one.
  • Description of services and SAC code.
  • Amount in EUR, plus INR equivalent if you're GST-registered.
  • If you export under LUT: "Supply meant for export under LUT without payment of IGST".
  • Full bank details for a euro wire, and the invoice number as payment reference.

Irish business clients usually handle VAT on services they buy from outside the EU under their own reverse-charge rules. They may want specific wording on your invoice; ask them rather than guessing. Our export invoice generator covers the Indian-side requirements.

Getting paid: euro routes into India

Route How it works Things to check
International wire (SWIFT) Client's Irish bank sends EUR to your Indian bank Intermediary charges; client's charge instruction
Payment provider with a euro receiving account Client pays locally in euro; provider remits to your Indian account Fees, conversion rate, documents for FIRA and matching
Card or online payment link Client pays by card through a provider Fees; purpose code on the inward credit

SEPA transfers work between euro-area accounts, so an Irish client can't SEPA straight into an Indian bank account. Some payment providers offer a euro receiving account in Europe that your client pays via SEPA, and then remit to India. Check each provider's current India pages for how their documents support EDF matching.

Whatever the route, your AD bank is the Indian bank that credits the money. That bank receives your EDF.

Filling the EDF for Irish invoices

Each Irish invoice is one row in Part 2B of the EDF for the month it's raised.

Part 2B column Example entry
Service recipient name & address Corrib Data Systems Ltd, Dublin 2, Ireland
Country Ireland
Invoice no. and date KS/26-27/112, 14 Nov 2026
Currency EUR
Amount 9,800.00
Net realisable value 9,800.00 (or less, if charges are agreed)
Description of services Regulatory software validation — November 2026
SAC code As confirmed by your CA (e.g. 998313)

Field 1.17 (country of final destination) is Ireland if all the month's invoices are Irish; if you also bill other countries, follow your bank's preference for that field and rely on Part 2B for the per-invoice country.

Worked example: Kalpavriksha Software LLP

Kalpavriksha, a 15-person QA and validation firm in Chennai, serves two Irish pharma-technology companies. November 2026:

  • KS/26-27/112 — EUR 9,800 to Corrib Data Systems, Dublin (about ₹8,82,000)
  • KS/26-27/117 — EUR 14,500 to Liffey Bio Analytics, Cork (about ₹13,05,000)

One EDF, two rows, total about ₹21,87,000, due 30 December 2026. Both clients pay by SWIFT wire in January. Liffey's payment arrives EUR 25 short because of an intermediary charge; Kalpavriksha's matching note explains it. Because the Liffey invoice exceeds ₹10 lakh, the bank needs the invoice, FIRA and matching note to close it. The Corrib invoice can go into the firm's quarterly realisation declaration.

Realisation: Irish payment terms

Irish corporate clients commonly pay on agreed terms after invoice approval, and approval often depends on a matching purchase order. If your invoice is missing the PO number, it may sit unpaid without anyone telling you. Services must be realised within 9 months from the invoice date. Track every invoice, and if a payment is genuinely delayed, ask your AD bank for an extension on a reasoned request.

GST: is it a zero-rated export?

Usually yes, if the Section 2(6) IGST conditions are met: you're in India, the client is outside India, place of supply is outside India, payment is in convertible foreign exchange, and you and the client aren't merely establishments of the same person. If your Irish client is your own group company, ask your CA about that last condition.

Frequently asked questions

Which currency should I invoice Irish clients in?

Euro is the usual choice, because it's the client's home currency and avoids conversion disputes. You can invoice in USD or INR if the contract says so; INR invoicing changes the realisation period to 12 months.

Can an Irish client pay me via SEPA?

Not directly into an Indian bank account, because SEPA works between euro-area accounts. Some payment providers offer a euro receiving account that accepts SEPA and then remit to India. Check their fees and documents.

Will my Irish client deduct tax from my invoice?

It depends on the service and Irish rules. Ask the client's accounts team what they'll do and whether they need a tax residency certificate, and have your CA review. India and Ireland have a tax treaty that may be relevant.

What do I write in the EDF country column for an Irish client?

Ireland. Each Irish invoice is a separate row in Part 2B with the client's name, address, invoice details, currency, amount, NRV, description and SAC code.

When is the EDF due for invoices raised to Irish clients in November 2026?

By 30 December 2026 — 30 days from the end of November. One EDF covers all that month's invoices, whatever country the clients are in.

Bottom line

Irish clients reward suppliers who get onboarding and invoicing right the first time — euro invoices, PO numbers and clear bank details. Declare each invoice monthly on the free EDF form generator and keep a FIRA for every euro receipt.
