EDF for Axis Bank: how to fill and submit it
If your foreign client payments land in an Axis Bank current account, Axis is normally your AD bank, and that is where your monthly EDF goes. The EDF for services is due within 30 days from the end of the month in which you raised the invoices, so October 2026 invoices must reach Axis by 30 November 2026. Axis, like every AD bank, publishes its own policy on how it accepts EDFs, so confirm the channel with your branch or relationship manager before your first filing.
Key takeaways
- Axis Bank is your AD bank if your export proceeds arrive in your Axis account.
- You need the AD code of your Axis branch, which is different from its IFSC and SWIFT code.
- One EDF per month covers all your export invoices of that month, one row per invoice in Part 2B.
- Ask your branch or RM how Axis wants EDFs submitted; do not assume a portal route.
- Keep the FIRA or payment advice for each inward remittance to match against your EDF rows.
Step 1: Confirm Axis is the right bank for your EDF
Under the Foreign Exchange Management (Export and Import of Goods and Services) Regulations, 2026, non-software service exporters outside an SEZ file the EDF with their AD bank, normally the bank where the foreign money lands. Software exporters can file with the AD bank or STPI. SEZ units file with the SEZ Development Commissioner instead.
If you bank with Axis and also with another bank, the general approach is to file with the bank that receives the proceeds for those invoices. If proceeds for different clients land in different banks, discuss with both banks how they want it handled. Our article on using multiple banks for exports covers that situation.
Step 2: Get your Axis AD code
The AD code identifies the branch for export transactions. It goes into field 1.6 of the EDF. You cannot work it out from the IFSC; ask the branch.
Practical ways to get it:
- Ask your relationship manager or branch operations team by email, and keep the reply.
- Look at older export documents from Axis, if you have any, which may show it.
- Send a formal request using our AD code request letter if your branch prefers a letter on letterhead.
Step 3: Prepare the EDF
You can prepare the form directly in our Axis Bank EDF generator, which pre-fills the bank name and lets you add invoice rows. Here is what Axis, like any AD bank, will expect to see:
| EDF section | What to fill for services |
|---|---|
| 1.1 Type of export | Services (or Software) |
| 1.4 Mode of delivery | Internet, for work delivered online |
| 1.6 AD code | Your Axis branch AD code |
| 1.7–1.9 IEC, GSTIN, PAN | Your business identifiers (IEC if you have one) |
| 1.10 AD bank | Axis Bank, branch name and address |
| 1.12 Mode of realisation | Usually Others (direct transfer/advance) |
| 1.17 Country | Client's country |
| 1.22 Total value in INR | Figures and words, equal to the sum of Part 2B |
| Part 2B | One row per invoice |
| Part 4 | Declaration with alternatives struck out, signed |
Step 4: Ask how Axis wants it submitted
Banks must publish their EDF acceptance policies under Regulation 19, which is why channels differ. With Axis, the realistic options to ask about are:
- submission at your home branch;
- email to a designated address your branch shares with you; or
- upload through a corporate or trade banking facility, if your account has one and Axis has enabled EDF submission there.
We do not list specific Axis portal paths or email addresses, because they vary and change. Your RM or branch is the reliable source. Ask also whether Axis wants a covering letter; if yes, keep it short: your details, the month covered, the number of invoices and the INR total.
A worked example
Saffron Pixel Media LLP, a Jaipur video production studio, banks with Axis. In October 2026 it raised three invoices:
| Invoice | Date | Client country | Amount |
|---|---|---|---|
| SPM/EX/031 | 3 Oct 2026 | United Kingdom | GBP 2,600 |
| SPM/EX/032 | 14 Oct 2026 | United States | USD 4,800 |
| SPM/EX/033 | 29 Oct 2026 | United Kingdom | GBP 1,150 |
Saffron Pixel prepares one EDF with three rows in Part 2B, converts each at a consistent rate to arrive at the INR total, writes the total in words, and marks mode of delivery as Internet. The designated partner signs Part 4. The RM confirms by email that the branch accepts scanned, signed EDFs with a covering letter, so Saffron Pixel emails them on 18 November 2026, well before the 30 November deadline.
The first GBP payment arrived on 21 October. Axis issued the FIRA (or payment advice) for it, and Saffron Pixel notes the FIRA reference in its EDF register against invoice SPM/EX/031.
After you submit: FIRA, EDPMS and follow-up
Axis must enter your EDF into EDPMS within 5 working days. As payments arrive, they are matched against the invoices. Keep these habits:
- Get a FIRA or payment advice for each credit. It shows the amount, currency and purpose code. Check the purpose code against the service you provided.
- Close small invoices efficiently. For invoices up to ₹10 lakh, Axis may close the EDPMS entry on your periodic declaration of realisation. Use our realisation declaration tool to prepare it.
- Watch the 9-month clock. Services must be realised within 9 months from the invoice date. If a client is slow, ask Axis for an extension before the deadline.
- Record acknowledgements. Save any email reply or reference number from Axis.
For FIRA questions specifically, see our guide to getting FIRA/FIRC from Axis Bank.
This is general information, not legal or tax advice, and Axis's own published policy governs its process.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I submit the EDF if I bank with Axis Bank?
Submit it to Axis Bank as your AD bank if your export proceeds land in your Axis account. Ask your branch or relationship manager which channel Axis uses for your account, such as branch submission, a designated email or a trade banking facility.
How do I find my Axis Bank AD code?
Ask your Axis branch or relationship manager, preferably in writing so you have a record. The AD code is not the same as the IFSC or SWIFT code, so do not copy those into field 1.6 of the EDF.
What is the EDF deadline for Axis Bank customers?
The deadline comes from RBI's regulations, not the bank: within 30 days from the end of the month in which the invoice was raised. For services other than software, you may also file on or before the date payment is received.
Does Axis Bank need a separate EDF for each foreign client?
The regulations allow one EDF per month covering all service exports to one or more recipients, with each invoice as a row in Part 2B. If your branch asks for a different presentation, follow its published policy.
What if Axis holds my foreign payment because the EDF is missing?
Submit the EDF covering that invoice as soon as possible, then ask the branch to release the credit. A short written request referencing the remittance and the EDF usually speeds things up.
Bottom line
Get your Axis AD code in writing, confirm the submission channel once, and the monthly routine becomes quick. Prepare this month's form with our Axis Bank EDF generator and send it well before the due date.

EDF form FAQs
What is the EDF form?
The Export Declaration Form (EDF) is the form in the Annex to RBI's Foreign Exchange Management (Export and Import of Goods and Services) Regulations, 2026. From 1 October 2026, exporters of services declare the full export value on it to their AD bank (or STPI for software, or the SEZ Development Commissioner for SEZ units).
When is the EDF due?
Within 30 days from the end of the month in which the invoice was raised. October 2026 invoices are due by 30 November 2026. For services other than software, you may instead submit on or before the date you receive payment.
Can one EDF cover several clients?
Yes. One EDF can cover all your service exports in a month to one or more recipients. Each invoice gets its own row in Part 2B.
Which parts does a service exporter fill?
Part 1 (general information), Part 2B (services table) and Part 4 (declaration). Part 2A is for goods and Part 3 is for post/courier exports, so service exporters usually leave them blank. Part 5 is for the bank.
Do individual freelancers have to file the EDF?
On 7 October 2026, RBI said individuals providing services abroad are not covered by the reporting requirement and that FAQs will follow. The Regulations' text hasn't changed yet, so check with your bank. Proprietorships, firms, LLPs and companies should assume they are covered.
By when must I get paid?
Within nine months of the invoice date for services, or twelve months if the invoice is in Indian rupees. Your AD bank can extend this on a reasoned request.
What is the AD code and where do I get it?
The AD code identifies the bank branch that handles your export transactions. It is not the IFSC or SWIFT code. Ask your branch or relationship manager — our AD code request letter makes it easy.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. Without an account, everything stays in your browser. If you create a free account, your business details and saved EDFs are stored so you can reopen them on any device.
Does the EDF change my GST or income tax?
No. The EDF is a FEMA declaration to your bank. GST (LUT, zero-rated supply) and income tax rules apply separately.
