How the emi calculator works

EMI = P × r × (1 + r)n ÷ ((1 + r)n − 1), where P is the principal, r the monthly interest rate and n the number of monthly instalments.

How to use it

  1. Move the sliders or type exact figures — results update as you go.
  2. Read the highlighted result first, then the breakdown and chart.
  3. Open the year-by-year table to plan ahead, or copy the result into your notes.

Frequently asked questions

What is an EMI?

An Equated Monthly Instalment is the fixed amount you pay the lender every month. It covers that month's interest plus a part of the principal, so the loan is fully repaid by the end of the tenure.

Why is most of my early EMI going to interest?

Interest is charged on the outstanding balance, which is highest at the start. As the balance falls, the interest part shrinks and the principal part grows.

Does this include processing fees?

No. It shows EMI and interest only. Add processing fees, insurance and GST on fees separately to see the full cost.
