EDF for IDFC FIRST Bank: how to fill and submit it
If your foreign client payments land in an IDFC FIRST Bank account, IDFC FIRST Bank is your AD bank and your monthly EDF goes to it. You will need the AD code for the branch handling your export business, a correctly filled EDF covering the month's invoices, and the submission channel IDFC FIRST specifies — which your relationship manager or branch can confirm, since every bank publishes its own EDF acceptance policy.
Key takeaways
- The bank that receives your export proceeds is normally the AD bank that receives your EDF.
- Ask IDFC FIRST for the AD code tied to your account; it is not your IFSC or SWIFT code.
- File within 30 days from the end of the invoice month — one EDF can cover all clients for that month.
- Confirm the submission channel (branch, email or online trade service) with your RM; don't guess.
- Keep the FIRA or payment advice for every receipt so the bank can match and close each EDPMS entry.
Why IDFC FIRST receives your EDF
Under the FEMA (Export and Import of Goods and Services) Regulations, 2026, in force from 1 October 2026, services exporters outside an SEZ submit the EDF to their AD bank — the Authorised Dealer Category-I bank, usually the one where the foreign money arrives. Software exporters can choose between the AD bank and STPI. SEZ units file with the Development Commissioner instead.
So if your USD, EUR or GBP receipts are credited to an IDFC FIRST current account, that's where your declaration belongs. If you split receipts across two banks, each bank should receive an EDF for the invoices it is realising — our piece on using multiple banks for exports works through that situation.
Step 1: Get the AD code
Field 1.6 of the EDF asks for the AD code — a code that identifies the bank branch for export transactions. Many founders who opened their IDFC FIRST account online have never needed it before.
Ask your relationship manager or home branch for "the AD code for export transactions on my account". Get it in writing (an email is fine) and store it with your export records. If you'd rather send a formal request, the AD code request letter gives you a ready format.
Don't substitute the IFSC (used for domestic transfers) or the SWIFT code (used for international routing). Neither is the AD code, and a wrong code is an easy reason for a form to come back.
Step 2: Fill the EDF
The EDF is the form in the Annex to the Regulations. For services, you fill Part 1 (general information), Part 2B (one row per invoice) and Part 4 (declaration). Part 2A (goods) and Part 3 (post/courier) are usually blank.
| Field | What to enter for IDFC FIRST |
|---|---|
| 1.1 Type of export | Services or Software |
| 1.4 Mode of delivery | Internet, for work delivered online |
| 1.6 AD code | The code IDFC FIRST gives you |
| 1.10 AD bank name and address | IDFC FIRST Bank, with the branch address the bank confirms |
| 1.12 Mode of realisation | Usually "Others" for direct transfers |
| Part 2B | Every invoice raised in the month, one row each |
Our IDFC FIRST EDF form pre-fills the bank name so you only add your branch details, AD code and invoices.
Step 3: Confirm how IDFC FIRST wants it submitted
The Regulations require each bank to publish its own policy on how it accepts EDFs (Regulation 19). That means the channel — branch submission, email to a designated address, or an online trade or forex service — is IDFC FIRST's decision, and it can differ for different customer segments.
We don't list portal paths or email addresses because they change and we can't verify them. Instead, ask your RM three questions:
- "Through which channel should I submit the monthly EDF for service exports?"
- "Do you need a signed scan, a physical copy, or both?"
- "Will I get an acknowledgement or reference number?"
Write down the answers. Once you know the route, the process is the same every month.
Step 4: What to attach
Banks set their own document lists, but most service exporters keep these ready:
- The signed EDF (all pages)
- Copies of the invoices listed in Part 2B
- The contract, engagement letter or purchase order for new clients
- A short covering letter — the EDF cover letter format works well
- For third-party payments, the client's confirmation of who will pay
Example: Ferncrest Labs Pvt Ltd, a two-year-old SaaS startup banking with IDFC FIRST, raised five invoices in October 2026 totalling USD 19,400 (about ₹16,10,000). It filed one EDF on 17 November with five Part 2B rows, the five invoices and a cover letter, through the channel its RM confirmed. The deadline was 30 November; filing early left time to fix a typo the bank spotted in one invoice date.
Step 5: FIRAs, matching and follow-up
Once the EDF is in, the bank enters it into EDPMS within 5 working days. Each entry closes when the export value is realised and matched.
For every receipt, get the FIRA or payment advice from IDFC FIRST and check the purpose code, amount and remitter name. Our separate guide on getting FIRA/FIRC from IDFC FIRST covers what to look for.
For invoices up to ₹10 lakh, the bank may close entries on your periodic declaration of realisation instead of invoice-by-invoice evidence. Ask IDFC FIRST whether it wants that declaration quarterly or at another interval.
Follow-up checklist
| When | What to do |
|---|---|
| By the 20th of next month | Submit the EDF through the confirmed channel |
| Within a week of submitting | Ask for the acknowledgement/reference if none arrived |
| On each receipt | Download or request the FIRA; check purpose code |
| Quarterly | Ask for a statement of open export entries; send the ₹10 lakh declaration if used |
| Month 6 after any unpaid invoice | Chase the client; consider an extension request |
This is general information, not legal or tax advice. IDFC FIRST's own published policy and your RM's instructions take priority over anything here.
Frequently asked questions
Is IDFC FIRST Bank my AD bank for the EDF?
If your export proceeds are credited to your IDFC FIRST account, it is normally the AD bank that receives your EDF. Confirm with your RM that your branch handles export transactions.
Where do I find my IDFC FIRST AD code?
Ask your relationship manager or branch for the AD code for export transactions on your account. It is different from your IFSC and SWIFT code. Keep the written confirmation with your export file.
Can I email my EDF to IDFC FIRST Bank?
That depends on IDFC FIRST's published EDF policy for your account type. Some banks accept email, others prefer branch or online trade submissions. Ask your RM for the approved channel before you file.
What is the deadline for submitting the EDF to IDFC FIRST?
The same as for any bank: within 30 days from the end of the month in which you raised the invoice. For services other than software, you may also file on or before the date payment is received.
Does IDFC FIRST need a separate EDF for each client?
No. One EDF per month can cover all service exports to one or more recipients, with each invoice as a row in Part 2B. Your bank may have formatting preferences, so ask.
Bottom line
With IDFC FIRST, the work is the same as at any AD bank: get the AD code, confirm the channel once, and file one clean EDF each month. Start with the pre-filled IDFC FIRST EDF form and keep your FIRAs organised for matching.

EDF form FAQs
What is the EDF form?
The Export Declaration Form (EDF) is the form in the Annex to RBI's Foreign Exchange Management (Export and Import of Goods and Services) Regulations, 2026. From 1 October 2026, exporters of services declare the full export value on it to their AD bank (or STPI for software, or the SEZ Development Commissioner for SEZ units).
When is the EDF due?
Within 30 days from the end of the month in which the invoice was raised. October 2026 invoices are due by 30 November 2026. For services other than software, you may instead submit on or before the date you receive payment.
Can one EDF cover several clients?
Yes. One EDF can cover all your service exports in a month to one or more recipients. Each invoice gets its own row in Part 2B.
Which parts does a service exporter fill?
Part 1 (general information), Part 2B (services table) and Part 4 (declaration). Part 2A is for goods and Part 3 is for post/courier exports, so service exporters usually leave them blank. Part 5 is for the bank.
Do individual freelancers have to file the EDF?
On 7 October 2026, RBI said individuals providing services abroad are not covered by the reporting requirement and that FAQs will follow. The Regulations' text hasn't changed yet, so check with your bank. Proprietorships, firms, LLPs and companies should assume they are covered.
By when must I get paid?
Within nine months of the invoice date for services, or twelve months if the invoice is in Indian rupees. Your AD bank can extend this on a reasoned request.
What is the AD code and where do I get it?
The AD code identifies the bank branch that handles your export transactions. It is not the IFSC or SWIFT code. Ask your branch or relationship manager — our AD code request letter makes it easy.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. Without an account, everything stays in your browser. If you create a free account, your business details and saved EDFs are stored so you can reopen them on any device.
Does the EDF change my GST or income tax?
No. The EDF is a FEMA declaration to your bank. GST (LUT, zero-rated supply) and income tax rules apply separately.
