EDF for Societe Generale (India): how to fill and submit it
Indian service centres of European groups that bank with Societe Generale in India file their monthly Export Declaration Form with Societe Generale, their AD bank. The detail that makes or breaks these filings is consistency: the service description, SAC code and contract reference on the EDF should match the invoice, and the purpose code on the remittance should fit the same service. File within 30 days from the end of the invoice month, through the channel Societe Generale confirms for your account.
Key takeaways
- Societe Generale in India is your AD bank for exports whose proceeds are credited to your account there.
- Field 1.6 takes the AD code from your relationship manager; it is not the IFSC (starting with SOGE) or the SWIFT code.
- Describe each service the same way on the invoice, the EDF row and your intra-group agreement.
- Check that the purpose code on each inward remittance fits the service; confirm with the bank before the credit is processed.
- Intra-group recharges are export invoices and go on the EDF like any other.
Societe Generale and group service centres
Societe Generale is a French bank operating in India with a corporate focus. Its export clients typically include Indian subsidiaries of French and other European groups: shared service centres, technology hubs and consulting units that bill their parent and sister companies for services.
The AD bank is wherever the foreign money lands. If your group pays into your Societe Generale account in India, that is where the EDF goes.
The AD code and the bank's process
Your Societe Generale paperwork will show an IFSC beginning with SOGE for domestic payments and a SWIFT code used by your European group companies. The AD code is different: it identifies the bank branch for export transactions and belongs in field 1.6. Ask your relationship manager for it; our glossary entry on the AD code explains the difference in more detail.
Ask, too, how Societe Generale accepts EDFs. Every AD bank publishes its acceptance policy under Regulation 19, so the channel and format are the bank's to confirm. We do not describe its systems, contacts or timelines.
Why consistency matters more than anything else
A shared service centre often bills several kinds of work: finance and accounting, IT support, perhaps some advisory. When the invoice says one thing, the EDF row another and the remittance advice carries a purpose code for something else, the bank has to query it, and entries stay open longer than they should.
The table shows common service lines with a typical SAC code and a purpose code that often fits. Treat it as a starting point; your CA should confirm the SAC and your bank the purpose code.
| Service line | Typical SAC | Purpose code that often fits |
|---|---|---|
| Accounting and bookkeeping | 998222 | P1005 (accounting, auditing, tax consulting) |
| IT consulting and support | 998313 | P0802 (software consultancy and implementation) |
| IT design and development | 998314 | P0807 (off-site software exports) or P0802 |
| Management consulting | 998311 | P1006 (business and management consultancy and PR) |
| Market research | 998371 | P1007 (advertising, trade fair, market research) |
| Engineering and technical services | Confirm with CA | P1009 (architectural, engineering and other technical) |
A worked example
Rivoli Shared Services India Pvt Ltd supports its French parent and a Spanish sister company. It banks with Societe Generale in India. In March 2027 it raised three invoices:
- RSS/27/03-01, 31 March: EUR 64,000 to the parent for accounting and bookkeeping
- RSS/27/03-02, 31 March: EUR 38,500 to the parent for IT support
- RSS/27/03-03, 31 March: EUR 21,000 to the Spanish company for management consulting
At an illustrative ₹91 per EUR, the values are ₹58,24,000, ₹35,03,500 and ₹19,11,000, and field 1.22 shows ₹1,12,38,500. One EDF covers all three, due by 30 April 2027.
Each Part 2B row carries the service description used on the invoice, the matching SAC code, and the contract number and date of the relevant intra-group agreement. The parent's two invoices refer to the same master agreement but different service schedules, and Rivoli records the schedule number in the remarks column so the trail is clear.
When the parent pays both invoices in one transfer, Rivoli sends the bank matching instructions splitting the amount between RSS/27/03-01 and RSS/27/03-02, and checks that the purpose code reflects the services. If one remittance covers two different kinds of service, ask the bank how it wants that reported before the money arrives. A FIRA or FIRC is the bank's record of the remittance; our FIRC request letter helps if one is missing.
Intra-group billing and GST
Services from an Indian company to its foreign group entities are generally exports of services for the EDF. GST is a separate question. One of the conditions for export of services under Section 2(6) of the IGST Act is that the supplier and recipient are not merely establishments of a distinct person. How that condition applies depends on how your Indian entity is set up, so ask your CA to confirm the position for your structure before you rely on zero-rating.
The EDF does not change your GST or income-tax obligations. This is general information, not legal or tax advice.
After filing
Societe Generale must enter the EDF into EDPMS within 5 working days. All three of Rivoli's invoices are above ₹10 lakh, so each needs the invoice, payment evidence and matching instructions to close. Invoices up to ₹10 lakh can be closed on a periodic declaration of realisation instead.
Each invoice must be realised within 9 months of its date. For Rivoli's March invoices, that is by 31 December 2027. Group settlement cycles set in Europe should be planned around that date. Our EDF guide covers the remaining fields of the form.
Frequently asked questions
Do intra-group invoices to our French parent go on the EDF?
Yes. Service invoices raised by an Indian company to foreign group entities are generally exports of services, and each one is listed as a row in Part 2B of the monthly EDF.
What SAC code should a shared service centre use?
It depends on the service. Accounting and bookkeeping commonly uses 998222, IT consulting and support 998313, and management consulting 998311. Confirm the code for each service line with your CA.
What if the purpose code on a remittance does not match the service?
Raise it with Societe Generale promptly, ideally before the credit is processed. A purpose code that does not fit the service can complicate matching and is harder to correct later.
Where do I get the Societe Generale AD code?
Ask your relationship manager for the AD code of the India branch servicing your account. It is not the IFSC beginning with SOGE or the SWIFT code.
Can one EDF cover invoices to France and Spain?
Yes. One EDF per month can cover all service exports to one or more recipients in any number of countries, with each invoice as a separate row.
Bottom line
For Societe Generale clients, a clean EDF comes from consistent descriptions, codes and contract references across invoice, form and remittance. Set them once per service line, then prepare each month's form with the free Societe Generale EDF generator.

EDF form FAQs
What is the EDF form?
The Export Declaration Form (EDF) is the form in the Annex to RBI's Foreign Exchange Management (Export and Import of Goods and Services) Regulations, 2026. From 1 October 2026, exporters of services declare the full export value on it to their AD bank (or STPI for software, or the SEZ Development Commissioner for SEZ units).
When is the EDF due?
Within 30 days from the end of the month in which the invoice was raised. October 2026 invoices are due by 30 November 2026. For services other than software, you may instead submit on or before the date you receive payment.
Can one EDF cover several clients?
Yes. One EDF can cover all your service exports in a month to one or more recipients. Each invoice gets its own row in Part 2B.
Which parts does a service exporter fill?
Part 1 (general information), Part 2B (services table) and Part 4 (declaration). Part 2A is for goods and Part 3 is for post/courier exports, so service exporters usually leave them blank. Part 5 is for the bank.
Do individual freelancers have to file the EDF?
On 7 October 2026, RBI said individuals providing services abroad are not covered by the reporting requirement and that FAQs will follow. The Regulations' text hasn't changed yet, so check with your bank. Proprietorships, firms, LLPs and companies should assume they are covered.
By when must I get paid?
Within nine months of the invoice date for services, or twelve months if the invoice is in Indian rupees. Your AD bank can extend this on a reasoned request.
What is the AD code and where do I get it?
The AD code identifies the bank branch that handles your export transactions. It is not the IFSC or SWIFT code. Ask your branch or relationship manager — our AD code request letter makes it easy.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. Without an account, everything stays in your browser. If you create a free account, your business details and saved EDFs are stored so you can reopen them on any device.
Does the EDF change my GST or income tax?
No. The EDF is a FEMA declaration to your bank. GST (LUT, zero-rated supply) and income tax rules apply separately.
