How it works

File your FAB EDF in five steps

Most exporters finish in under five minutes. Next month it's faster — your business and bank details are already filled.

  1. Enter your business once

Name, address, PAN, GSTIN, IE code and exporter category. It's remembered on this device — or in your free account.

  2. Add your bank

Pick your AD bank and branch and enter the AD code (ask your branch if you don't have it).

  3. List the month's invoices

One row per invoice in Part 2B. One EDF can cover every client you billed that month.

  4. Answer the declaration

I/We, who pays, received or to be received, currency. We strike out the words that don't apply for you.

  5. Download and submit

Download the PDF or Word file, sign it and submit it to your bank within 30 days of month end.

EDF for First Abu Dhabi Bank (India): how to fill and submit it

If your export receipts are credited to an account with First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB) in India, FAB is your AD bank and your monthly Export Declaration Form goes to it. When an EDF is missed, the fix is to file it as soon as you can with a short explanation, because the AD bank may accept a delayed EDF for reasonable cause. The bigger risk is a foreign payment held until the EDF is on record, which is why most exporters prefer to file every month well before the 30-day deadline.

Key takeaways

  • FAB in India is your AD bank for exports whose proceeds are credited to your account there.
  • Field 1.6 needs the AD code, not the IFSC (starting with NBAD) or the SWIFT code.
  • One EDF per month covers every service invoice raised in that month, due 30 days after the month ends.
  • If you miss a month, file the late EDF with a covering note; do not wait for the next month's filing.
  • Invoices raised before 1 October 2026 are widely reported to fall outside the EDF; confirm with the bank.

FAB as your AD bank

First Abu Dhabi Bank is a UAE bank that operates in India. Service exporters who bank with it often have clients in the UAE and the Gulf: consultancies, IT firms, engineering design houses and advisory practices.

The AD bank is normally the bank where your foreign money lands. If your clients pay into your FAB account in India, that is where the EDF goes. If you also bank with an Indian bank and some clients pay there, track those invoices with that bank instead.

The AD code and the bank's process

Field 1.6 asks for the AD code, which identifies the bank branch for export transactions. Your IFSC beginning with NBAD routes domestic payments, and the SWIFT code is what your Gulf clients use. Neither belongs in field 1.6. Ask the bank for the AD code of the branch servicing your account. If you want it in writing, our AD code request letter is a ready format.

Under Regulation 19, FAB, like every AD bank, publishes its own policy on how it accepts EDFs. Ask your relationship manager or branch which channel applies, what signature format is accepted and what to attach. We do not describe the bank's systems or timelines.

The normal monthly filing

Falcon Crest Advisory LLP provides financial advisory and business consultancy to family-owned groups in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, and banks with FAB in India. Under the 2026 Regulations, which took effect on 1 October 2026, Falcon Crest's routine looks like this:

  • Raise the month's invoices, typically four to six.
  • Prepare one EDF listing every invoice in Part 2B, with SAC 998311 (management consulting) and each client's engagement letter reference.
  • Total the rupee value in field 1.22 and have a designated partner sign Part 4.
  • Submit through the channel FAB confirmed, by the 15th of the next month, well ahead of the 30-day deadline.

Because consulting is a service other than software, Falcon Crest could alternatively file on or before the date each payment is received. It prefers the month-end routine, because one filing a month is easier to control than one per payment.

When a month slips: catching up

Suppose Falcon Crest's partner responsible for the EDF is travelling in November, and the October 2026 EDF, due 30 November, is missed. In mid-December a SAR payment against an October invoice arrives, and FAB holds the credit because no EDF is on record for it. Here is how Falcon Crest catches up.

Priority Action Why
1 Prepare the October 2026 EDF at once, covering every October invoice The held payment relates to it
2 Attach a short covering note explaining the delay and quoting the held remittance The bank may accept a delayed EDF for reasonable cause
3 Ask the RM to release the held credit once the EDF is accepted Gets the money into the account
4 File the November 2026 EDF on time, by 30 December Prevents a second backlog
5 Add a second named person to the routine Removes the single point of failure

Our EDF cover letter is a quick way to write the covering note. Keep it factual: what was missed, why, and what has changed. There is no point overstating the reason; the bank decides whether it is reasonable.

Late EDFs and open entries can have consequences beyond a held payment, including blocked eBRCs, GST refund problems and, in serious cases, penalties under Section 13 of FEMA. Catching up promptly, with a clear explanation, is the sensible response.

Older invoices and the cut-over

Falcon Crest also has unpaid invoices from August and September 2026. It is widely reported that the EDF does not apply to invoices raised before 1 October 2026, but Falcon Crest confirms this with FAB rather than assuming. If an old invoice and a new one are paid in the same remittance, it sends matching instructions showing which part settles which invoice.

Closing entries after payment

FAB must enter the EDF into EDPMS within 5 working days of accepting it. Each invoice stays open until realised, which must happen within 9 months of the invoice date for services billed in foreign currency.

For invoices up to ₹10 lakh, the bank may close entries on the exporter's periodic declaration that the money has been received. Above ₹10 lakh, expect to provide the invoice, payment evidence such as a FIRA or bank advice, and matching instructions. Check each remittance's purpose code; business consultancy often sits under P1006, but confirm with the bank.

Our EDF due dates page lists every filing deadline, including the 2 March 2027 date for January invoices. This is general information, not legal or tax advice.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if I miss the EDF deadline with FAB?

File the overdue EDF as soon as possible, with a covering note explaining the delay. The AD bank may accept a delayed EDF for reasonable cause. In the meantime, the bank may hold foreign payments that relate to it.

Why is FAB holding my foreign payment?

A common reason is that no EDF is on record for the invoices the payment relates to. Submit the EDF for the relevant month, quote the remittance details and ask your RM to release the credit once it is accepted.

Is the FAB IFSC my AD code?

No. The IFSC begins with NBAD and routes domestic payments. The AD code identifies the branch for export transactions and goes into field 1.6; ask the bank for it.

Does an LLP need to file an EDF?

Yes. Proprietorships, firms, LLPs and companies should assume they are covered by the 2026 Regulations. Only individuals under personal contracts were told by RBI on 7 October 2026 that they need not report, pending FAQs.

Do I need to file EDFs for September 2026 invoices?

It is widely reported that the EDF does not apply to invoices raised before 1 October 2026. Confirm with FAB, especially if old and new invoices are paid together.

Bottom line

For FAB clients, the EDF is a monthly habit, and if a month slips, a prompt late filing with an honest note is the way back. Prepare your next form, or the one you missed, with the free FAB EDF generator.

Questions

EDF form FAQs

What is the EDF form?

The Export Declaration Form (EDF) is the form in the Annex to RBI's Foreign Exchange Management (Export and Import of Goods and Services) Regulations, 2026. From 1 October 2026, exporters of services declare the full export value on it to their AD bank (or STPI for software, or the SEZ Development Commissioner for SEZ units).

When is the EDF due?

Within 30 days from the end of the month in which the invoice was raised. October 2026 invoices are due by 30 November 2026. For services other than software, you may instead submit on or before the date you receive payment.

Can one EDF cover several clients?

Yes. One EDF can cover all your service exports in a month to one or more recipients. Each invoice gets its own row in Part 2B.

Which parts does a service exporter fill?

Part 1 (general information), Part 2B (services table) and Part 4 (declaration). Part 2A is for goods and Part 3 is for post/courier exports, so service exporters usually leave them blank. Part 5 is for the bank.

Do individual freelancers have to file the EDF?

On 7 October 2026, RBI said individuals providing services abroad are not covered by the reporting requirement and that FAQs will follow. The Regulations' text hasn't changed yet, so check with your bank. Proprietorships, firms, LLPs and companies should assume they are covered.

By when must I get paid?

Within nine months of the invoice date for services, or twelve months if the invoice is in Indian rupees. Your AD bank can extend this on a reasoned request.

What is the AD code and where do I get it?

The AD code identifies the bank branch that handles your export transactions. It is not the IFSC or SWIFT code. Ask your branch or relationship manager — our AD code request letter makes it easy.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

No. Without an account, everything stays in your browser. If you create a free account, your business details and saved EDFs are stored so you can reopen them on any device.

Does the EDF change my GST or income tax?

No. The EDF is a FEMA declaration to your bank. GST (LUT, zero-rated supply) and income tax rules apply separately.
