EDF for AU Small Finance Bank: how to fill and submit it
If your export earnings arrive in an AU Small Finance Bank account, that is the bank to approach for your EDF, provided the account and branch are set up to handle foreign exchange receipts as an Authorised Dealer. The first thing to confirm with AU is not the form, which is standard, but that your account can receive export proceeds and which AD code applies. Once that is settled, the monthly filing is the same as with any other bank.
Key takeaways
- The EDF goes to the AD Category-I bank where your foreign receipts land. Confirm with AU that it handles export receipts for your account.
- Ask AU for the AD code that should appear in field 1.6.
- Banks publish their own EDF acceptance policies. Get AU's channel (branch, email or online) from your branch or relationship manager.
- The deadline is 30 days from the end of the invoice month; October 2026 invoices are due by 30 November 2026.
- Services exports must be realised within 9 months of the invoice date.
Why the AD question comes first with a small finance bank
The 2026 Regulations route a services exporter's EDF to an "AD bank", meaning an Authorised Dealer Category-I bank, normally the bank where the foreign money lands. Large universal banks have handled export receipts for decades. Small finance banks are newer to the business, and the scope of foreign exchange services can differ by bank, by branch and by account type.
That is not a reason to switch banks. It is a reason to ask a clear question at the start: "Can this account receive foreign inward remittances for export of services, and will you accept and process my EDF?" Get the answer in writing. If the answer is yes, you will also get the AD code. If it is no or uncertain, you need to route export receipts to a bank that can handle them before your next invoice goes out.
What to ask AU Small Finance Bank
Use this as a script for the conversation with your branch or relationship manager:
| Question | Why you need the answer |
|---|---|
| Can my account receive export proceeds from foreign clients? | The EDF goes to the bank where the money lands. |
| What is the AD code for my export transactions? | Mandatory field 1.6 on the EDF. |
| How do you accept EDFs: branch, email or online? | Banks set their own process under Regulation 19. |
| What attachments do you want each month? | Avoids a back-and-forth after you submit. |
| Will you acknowledge receipt? | Proof that you filed on time. |
| How will I receive FIRA or inward remittance advice? | Needed for realisation and GST records. |
| Do you accept periodic declarations for invoices up to ₹10 lakh? | Saves invoice-by-invoice matching. |
If you need to put the AD code question in writing, our AD code request letter does the job.
Preparing the EDF
With the AD code and channel confirmed, fill the form as any services exporter would.
- Part 1: type of export "Services" (or "Software" if that is what you export), delivery mode "Internet" for online delivery, category of exporter as applicable, AD code, IEC if you have one, GSTIN, PAN, AU Small Finance Bank's branch name and address in 1.10, your details in 1.11, mode of realisation (usually "Others"), recipient, country, description, and the rupee total in 1.22.
- Part 2A: blank.
- Part 2B: one row per invoice raised in the month and paid into the AU account.
- Part 4: strike out the alternatives that do not apply, enter the date by which full value will be received, sign.
Our AU Small Finance Bank EDF form pre-fills the bank's name. If you are unsure about any field, the field-by-field EDF guide explains each one.
Worked example
Rang Mahal Textiles Design Studio, a proprietorship in Jaipur, creates print and pattern designs for a fashion label in Italy. It has banked with AU Small Finance Bank for years for domestic business and started receiving euro payments there in 2026.
Before filing anything under the new rules, the proprietor visits her branch on 5 October 2026. The branch confirms the account can receive the euro payments, provides the AD code, and explains how it wants EDFs submitted. She notes it all.
In October 2026 she raises two invoices: EUR 2,600 on 9 October and EUR 1,900 on 27 October. Converted at an illustrative book rate of ₹92, the total is ₹4,14,000. One EDF, two rows, submitted to AU on 7 November. Deadline: 30 November 2026.
Because her work is design services rather than software, she had another option too: submitting the EDF on or before the date payment is received. For a client that pays in 15 days, filing early in the following month is just as easy and keeps the routine simple.
The 9 October invoice must be realised by 9 July 2027. Both invoices are well under ₹10 lakh, so she asks AU whether a quarterly realisation declaration will close the EDPMS entries.
After submission
- Keep the acknowledgement. File it with the EDF copy.
- Expect the EDPMS entry. The bank must enter your EDF into EDPMS within 5 working days.
- Collect the FIRA or advice for each payment. Check the purpose code. For design work, codes vary with the nature of the service, so confirm the right one with AU; our purpose code finder shows the common options.
- Match payments to invoices. If the client pays both invoices in one transfer, tell the bank which invoices it covers.
- Give the ₹10 lakh declaration if AU accepts it, for invoices at or below that value.
Red flags to act on
- The branch is unsure whether it can handle export receipts. Escalate to the relationship manager or the bank's forex desk and get a clear answer before invoicing.
- A foreign payment is held. Banks may hold inward credits until an EDF is given. Check the EDF for that month went in.
- A client's payment is approaching 9 months. Ask AU for an extension, with reasons, before the deadline.
This is general information, not legal or tax advice. AU Small Finance Bank's published process governs how it accepts EDFs.
Frequently asked questions
Can I submit the EDF to AU Small Finance Bank?
If AU is the AD bank where your foreign export receipts land, yes. Confirm with your branch that your account can receive export proceeds and that it will accept your EDF, and get the AD code.
Is there a special AU format for the EDF?
No. The EDF format is fixed by the Annex to the FEMA (Export and Import of Goods and Services) Regulations, 2026. AU decides the submission channel and supporting documents.
What if AU cannot handle my export receipts?
Then route your foreign payments to a bank that can, and file the EDF there. Update the bank details on your invoices from the start of a month to avoid mismatches.
Do I need to file if I am an individual freelancer banking with AU?
At its 7 October 2026 policy press conference, RBI said individuals providing services abroad are not required to report, and promised FAQs. The Regulations have not been amended yet, so check with AU until the FAQs are out.
Can one EDF cover several invoices paid into AU?
Yes. One EDF per month can cover all your service exports to one or more recipients, with each invoice as a separate row in Part 2B.
Bottom line
With AU Small Finance Bank, confirm export capability and the AD code first, then file monthly like any other bank. Use the AU Bank EDF generator to prepare each month's form in minutes.

All 49 banksEDF form FAQs
What is the EDF form?
The Export Declaration Form (EDF) is the form in the Annex to RBI's Foreign Exchange Management (Export and Import of Goods and Services) Regulations, 2026. From 1 October 2026, exporters of services declare the full export value on it to their AD bank (or STPI for software, or the SEZ Development Commissioner for SEZ units).
When is the EDF due?
Within 30 days from the end of the month in which the invoice was raised. October 2026 invoices are due by 30 November 2026. For services other than software, you may instead submit on or before the date you receive payment.
Can one EDF cover several clients?
Yes. One EDF can cover all your service exports in a month to one or more recipients. Each invoice gets its own row in Part 2B.
Which parts does a service exporter fill?
Part 1 (general information), Part 2B (services table) and Part 4 (declaration). Part 2A is for goods and Part 3 is for post/courier exports, so service exporters usually leave them blank. Part 5 is for the bank.
Do individual freelancers have to file the EDF?
On 7 October 2026, RBI said individuals providing services abroad are not covered by the reporting requirement and that FAQs will follow. The Regulations' text hasn't changed yet, so check with your bank. Proprietorships, firms, LLPs and companies should assume they are covered.
By when must I get paid?
Within nine months of the invoice date for services, or twelve months if the invoice is in Indian rupees. Your AD bank can extend this on a reasoned request.
What is the AD code and where do I get it?
The AD code identifies the bank branch that handles your export transactions. It is not the IFSC or SWIFT code. Ask your branch or relationship manager — our AD code request letter makes it easy.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. Without an account, everything stays in your browser. If you create a free account, your business details and saved EDFs are stored so you can reopen them on any device.
Does the EDF change my GST or income tax?
No. The EDF is a FEMA declaration to your bank. GST (LUT, zero-rated supply) and income tax rules apply separately.
