EDF Filing for Service Exporters in Indore

Indore's service exporters, from IT and BPO companies to digital agencies and edtech teams, file the same monthly Export Declaration Form as exporters anywhere in India. If you are outside an SEZ, the EDF goes to the AD bank where your foreign payments land, within 30 days from the end of the invoice month; if you are an SEZ unit, it goes to the SEZ Development Commissioner. The practical challenge in a growing export city is usually not the form but getting clear answers from your branch on the first try.

Key takeaways

  • The EDF applies from 1 October 2026 to service exporters across India, Indore included.
  • Confirm with your bank which branch and AD code handle your export transactions. It may not be your home branch.
  • SEZ units file with the Development Commissioner; everyone else files with their AD bank (software exporters may also use STPI).
  • One EDF per month covers all your foreign invoices from that month.
  • Realise each invoice within 9 months of its date, and use the ₹10 lakh declaration to close smaller entries.

Who exports services from Indore

Indore has built a steady base of service exporters over the years. You will commonly find:

  • IT services and software firms building products and handling development for overseas clients;
  • BPO, KPO and customer support units serving international clients;
  • Digital marketing, SEO and content agencies working for clients in the US, UK, Australia and the Gulf;
  • Edtech and tutoring businesses with students abroad;
  • Units in IT SEZs, which follow the SEZ route.

Each of these files the same form. What differs is the filing authority and the invoice pattern.

Step one: get your branch to confirm the basics

In cities where export volumes are still growing, not every bank branch handles foreign exchange paperwork itself. Some banks route export transactions through a designated branch in the city or region. We cannot tell you how your bank is organised in Indore, and you should not rely on anyone who guesses.

Ask your branch, ideally in writing:

  1. Which branch and AD code handle export transactions for my account?
  2. How should I submit the monthly EDF for service exports: branch counter, email or portal?
  3. What should I attach?
  4. How will I receive FIRA or bank advice for each foreign payment?

Each bank must publish its own policy on how it accepts EDFs, so the answers will differ between banks. Get them recorded and share them with whoever handles your filing. If the branch needs a formal request, the AD code request letter is ready to use.

Filing authorities at a glance

Your situation File the EDF with Note
Services (non-software), outside SEZ AD bank Option to file on or before payment date
Software, outside SEZ AD bank or STPI SOFTEX withdrawn; STPI certification not mandatory
Any service, inside an SEZ SEZ Development Commissioner Follow the DC's submission process
Individual on personal contracts Check with your bank RBI said on 7 October 2026 individuals need not report; FAQs pending

Worked example: an Indore agency's month

Narmada Digital LLP, an Indore performance-marketing agency, runs campaigns for e-commerce brands abroad. Foreign payments arrive in its current account. Suppose that in November 2026 it raises:

Client Country Currency Amount Approx. INR SAC
Coastline Supply Co Australia AUD 4,600 ₹2,55,000 998361
Brightleaf Naturals LLC USA USD 3,900 ₹3,28,000 998361
Al Noor Home Store UAE AED 11,000 ₹2,52,000 998361
Harrow & Finch Ltd UK GBP 2,100 ₹2,27,000 998371

Its routine:

  • Early November: ask the home branch which branch handles its export paperwork; get the AD code and an email address for trade documents in writing.
  • 5 December: prepare one EDF with four Part 2B rows using the free EDF form generator; total in field 1.22 about ₹10,62,000.
  • 6 December: a designated partner signs Part 4; the agency submits with invoice copies, well before the 30 December 2026 deadline.
  • Purpose codes: check that the FIRAs show P1007 for advertising and market research, as discussed with the bank.
  • Quarter end: since every invoice is under ₹10 lakh, send the bank a realisation declaration covering all paid invoices, using the realisation declaration tool.

Common issues for Indore exporters

Payments held at the bank. If a foreign payment arrives before the bank has your EDF, it may hold the credit. Send the EDF and a short release request together.

Wrong purpose codes. Agencies and BPO units often find remittances tagged with a generic code. Ask your bank to correct it early, with the invoice as support. The purpose code finder helps you understand which code fits.

Clients paying via platforms. If clients pay through a payment provider, confirm which bank receives the settlement and what payment evidence it accepts.

Late-paying clients. Track each invoice's 9-month deadline. If a client will pay late, ask your AD bank for an extension before the deadline.

Individuals and small proprietors

Indore has many independent professionals working for overseas clients. At RBI's 7 October 2026 press conference, the Governor said individuals providing services abroad are not required to report, and RBI said it would issue FAQs. The regulation text has not changed yet. If you work in your own name, check with your bank. If you trade as a proprietorship with a current account and GSTIN, the cautious course is to treat yourself as covered.

GST and the EDF

Export of services is zero-rated under Section 16 of the IGST Act, provided the Section 2(6) conditions are met. Keep your LUT current and use the wording "Supply meant for export under LUT without payment of IGST" on export invoices. The EDF is a FEMA declaration; it does not change GST or income-tax obligations. This guide is general information, not legal or tax advice.

Frequently asked questions

Where do Indore service exporters submit the EDF?

Outside an SEZ, with the AD bank where the foreign payment lands; software exporters may alternatively use STPI. SEZ units file with the SEZ Development Commissioner. Ask your bank which branch handles export transactions for your account.

Does every bank branch in Indore accept EDFs?

Do not assume so. Some banks route export paperwork through designated branches. Ask your home branch which branch and AD code apply, and how the bank accepts EDFs.

When is the EDF due for Indore exporters?

Thirty days from the end of the month in which the invoice was raised, as for all Indian exporters. November 2026 invoices are due by 30 December 2026.

Can an Indore agency file one EDF for clients in several countries?

Yes. One EDF per month can cover all service exports to one or more recipients, with each invoice as a row in Part 2B and its own country.

I freelance from Indore for foreign clients. Do I file?

If you are an individual on personal contracts, RBI said on 7 October 2026 that you are not required to report, though FAQs are pending. Check with your bank in the meantime.
